When Thalia’s Tree—the source of Camp Half-Blood’s protective barrier—is poisoned by a traitorous demigod, Luke, the camp is left vulnerable to monster attacks. Percy and his new ally, a tough, mysterious cyclops named Tyson (who is also his half-brother), join forces with Annabeth Chase. Together, they must sail through the Sea of Monsters, face Charybdis, Scylla, and the sorceress Circe, and retrieve the Golden Fleece before Luke uses it to resurrect the evil Titan Kronos. What Works Well 1. Character Growth Percy matures significantly here. He struggles with accepting Tyson (a cyclops, traditionally enemies of demigods) and learns that family loyalty trumps prejudice.
