It was for a woman who finally stopped falling.

The arena fell silent. For the first time in years, no one laughed. No one cheered. No one posted a laughing emoji.

A narrow, dark hallway lined with screens playing the contestants’ most shameful moments. To pass, you had to walk to the end, drink a “memory shot” (a potent mix of vodka and a chemical that induced temporary nausea), and publicly apologize to the person you’d hurt the most.

By the seventh screen, Martina wasn’t walking. She was crawling. Her sequined dress was torn. Mascara bled down her cheeks like black tears.

The judges huddled. Finally, the head judge spoke: “The winner of MyDrunkenStar’s The Big Challenge 2021… is Martina Voss. For the first time in the show’s history, the winner is the one who hit rock bottom and looked up.”

The video had 200 million views. Not a single one was for a drunken star.

She took the memory shot. Her stomach clenched. Her vision blurred. She turned to the camera, to the millions watching, to Leo crying backstage, and to Kai who was offering her a glass of water.

The host, sweaty and confused, said, “Ladies and gentlemen… by a technicality, Kai didn’t finish the ‘drunk’ portion because he never got drunk. Martina completed the Gauntlet… but she did it sober.”
