He copied notes by hand, transcribed case summaries, and learned that customary tenure wasn't a "lesser" system but a complex web of kinship and consent. He learned that the Land Act of 1995 had tried to unify tenure but had created new loopholes. And he learned that his mother’s plot in Kanyama was lost not because the law failed, but because no one had argued the "adverse possession" claim buried in Section 37 of the old Act.
