The film is loosely based on the 2006 novel of the same name by Max Brooks. It follows former United Nations employee Gerry Lane (played by Brad Pitt), who, with a small team, travels the world in search of a way to stop a zombie pandemic. The movie significantly deviates from the book's structure and presents a more action-oriented storyline.
