Alcatel 5gee Now

With a name that sounds like a budget airline boarding pass and a typo someone forgot to fix, the 5Gee is Alcatel’s latest attempt to democratize 5G for the rest of us. And for once, it actually makes sense. “5Gee” is pure Alcatel wordplay. It’s 5G, plus the surprised expression of someone checking their bank account after buying a flagship phone (“Gee, that was expensive”). The Alcatel 5Gee is the antidote to that feeling.

Let’s be honest. You don’t need a $1,200 folding camera brick with a titanium chassis and a 200MP sensor that takes three seconds to process a photo of your cat. You need a phone that works, doesn’t die by 2 PM, and won’t make you take out a second mortgage.

The cameras are mediocre at night. The speaker sounds like a frustrated bee. And the 720p screen is noticeable if you hold it next to anything fancier. But here’s the thing: you won’t hold it next to anything fancier, because you saved $800.

Enter the .

8/10 — “Gee, that’s actually pretty good.” Available in Dark Slate and “We Had Extra Blue” at Amazon, Walmart, and your local carrier’s dusty prepaid section.

It’s light. Like, embarrassingly light compared to a Pixel 8 Pro. The plastic back doesn’t shatter when you look at it wrong. The fingerprint sensor on the side is instant. And the battery — chef’s kiss — regularly gave me 9–10 hours of screen time. I stopped carrying a power bank.
